MUNSHIGANJ, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 544 deep tube wells are being installed across the district to ensure safe drinking water supply and address the shortage of potable water in the district.

According to the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), eight deep tube wells will be installed in each of the 68 unions across the district's six upazilas during the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Of the total, 72 tube wells will be installed in nine unions of Sadar upazila, 112 in 14 unions of Sreenagar, 112 in 14 unions of Sirajdikhan, 80 in 10 unions of Louhajang, 104 in 13 unions of Tongibari and 64 in eight unions of Gazaria.

The initiative is expected to provide safe drinking water to a large number of rural residents. It will also help reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and ensure access to arsenic-free water, particularly in arsenic-prone areas.

DPHE Executive Engineer Mohammad Humayun Kabir told BSS that tube wells would be allocated on a priority basis to areas facing shortages of safe drinking water and where the groundwater level has fallen.

He said sites for the tube wells would be selected through field-level committees to ensure that the facilities are installed where they are most needed.

Each tube well will be approximately 700 feet deep, and the water supplied through the wells is expected to be free from arsenic.
