KHULNA, Aug 26, 2026 (BSS) - Police detained three members of a family and recovered three foreign-made pistols, ammunition and several locally made weapons from a house in Darogapara of Khulna city today following the shooting of a man.
The injured man, Masud Sheikh, son of Dulu Sheikh of Terokhada upazila, was shot in the neck during an incident in Tutpara this morning. As his condition deteriorated, he was later referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Khulna Police Station Mizanur Rahman said police, acting on a tip-off, raided the rented room of Khan Kubbat Ali on the second floor of a house on Mohiuddin Road in Darogapara in the afternoon.
Police recovered a pistol from a chair in the dining room and later seized two more foreign-made pistols, six magazines and eight rounds of ammunition from different parts of the room. Two Chinese axes, two tea-cutters and other locally made weapons were also recovered.
The detained persons are Khan Kubbat Ali, his wife Shamsun Nahar and their son KM Abid Hasan. They were taken to Khulna Sadar Police Station for questioning about the source and intended use of the weapons.
Police said Masud and another man, Tuku, both from Terokhada, had gone to the house of KM Imtiaz Ali around 10am for mediation over an unspecified matter. During the discussion, Kubbat allegedly fired at Masud. The bullet missed its intended target and struck Masud on the right side of his neck.
Police said Kubbat later arranged a rickshaw to take Masud to Khulna General Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital and later referred to Dhaka for better treatment.
According to police, Masud is a distant maternal cousin of Kubbat.
Police initially could not determine the exact location of the shooting or identify those involved. Later, with help from local residents, they raided the house and recovered the firearms and other weapons.
The three detained family members were being questioned, and further legal action would be taken based on the investigation, police said.
