
SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - A total of Taka 1,189.59 crore has been allocated for the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for the fiscal year (FY) 2026-2027.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today placed the national budget at Jatiya Sangsad allocating the amount for the ministry.
According to the budget documents, of the proposed Taka 1,189.59 crore allocation for the ministry, Taka 913.49 crore has been earmarked for operational expenditure and Taka 276.10 crore for development expenditure.
The proposed budget announced a special project to collect and preserve audio-visual documents of the “Student-People’s Mass Uprising-2024” from domestic and foreign sources. Through the initiative, the heroism and accurate history of the July uprising will be preserved by the state for future generations.
The budget proposal said the government has undertaken extensive legal reform initiatives to ensure press freedom and protect the rights of media professionals. As part of these efforts, the “Printing Press and Publications Act (Amendment) 2025”, “Broadcasting Act 2025”, “Media Workers (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Act 2021 (Draft)”, and “Press Council Act 2022” will be enacted and implemented in the next fiscal year.
At the same time, steps have been taken to implement the “Bangladesh Film Development Corporation Act 2023” and the “Bangladesh Television District News Correspondent Recruitment, Honorarium Structure and Grade Upgradation Policy 2023”.
The proposal further stated that two projects titled “Modernisation of Bangladesh Betar, Chattogram Centre and Installation of Digital Broadcasting Equipment” and “Transformation of Bangladesh Television Chattogram Centre into a Full-Fledged TV Centre (Phase-1)” will be implemented.
In addition, the “BFDC Complex Construction” project will be implemented to restore the glorious environment of the country’s film industry, while the project titled “Construction of Modern Information Complexes at District Level (Phase-1)” will be carried out to ensure the flow of information at the grassroots level.
According to the proposed budget, activities of the existing 10 press wings in Bangladesh missions abroad will be managed efficiently to promote Bangladesh’s positive image and the government’s policy activities in the international arena.
It also noted that the government will implement awareness-building campaigns on “Communication and Awareness Building for Children, Adolescents and Women Issues” for social advancement and the project titled “SIBE-NIMC” to enhance the capacity of the National Institute of Mass Communication.
