Tk 30,442.66 crore budget proposed for Social Welfare Ministry

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - A budget of Taka 30,442 crore 66 lakh 
has been proposed for the Ministry of Social Welfare for the fiscal year 
2026-27. 

Out of this, Tk 15,174 crore 76 lakh has been allocated for the operating 
sector and Tk 15,267 crore 90 lakh for the development sector.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury presented this 
proposal during his budget speech for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the Jatiya 
Sangsad today.

Earlier, in the 2025-26 fiscal year budget, an allocation of Tk 13,991 crore 
was proposed for the Ministry of Social Welfare. In the revised budget, the 
size stood at Tk 13,453 crore.

In his speech, the Finance Minister said that the activities, projects, and 
programs to be implemented in the 2026-27 fiscal year include - the family 
card program; old age allowance program; allowance for widows and deserted 
women program; disability allowance and education stipend program; financial 
assistance to private orphanages; interest-free microcredit program; and life 
standard development programs for underprivileged communities.

Financial assistance will also continue for patients suffering from cancer, 
kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, stroke paralysis, thalassemia, and heart 
disease.

Other key projects include the Cochlear Implant program; registration and ID 
card distribution for persons with disabilities alongside creating a national 
database; the Autism and NDD Service Center (2nd revised) project; and the 
Strengthening Social Protection for Improved Resilience, Inclusion and 
Targeting (SSSPIRIT) project.
