TIN mandatory for registration of motorcycles above 150cc

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - The government has proposed making Tax Identification Number (TIN) mandatory for the registration of motorcycles with engine capacities above 150cc as part of its efforts to strengthen tax compliance and broaden the tax net.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the measure while presenting the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the Jatiya Sangsad here today.

The proposed budget has been set at Taka 9.38 lakh crore, representing 13.7 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). 

The budget size is Taka 1.48 lakh crore higher than that of the current fiscal year.

In his budget speech, the minister outlined a strategy to place greater emphasis on development activities by increasing development expenditure and comparatively reducing operating expenditure in the coming fiscal year.

The proposed budget earmarks Taka 3 lakh crore for the Annual Development Programme (ADP), while total development expenditure has been estimated at Taka 3,16,075 crore. 

Allocations for operating expenditure and other sectors have been proposed at Taka 6,21,925 crore.
