SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - To address the challenges of automation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the government has set a target of creating 200,000 new jobs annually in the technology sector alongside developing a skilled workforce.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the target while delivering the proposed budget speech for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the Jatiya Sangsad today.

In his budget speech, the minister said the government also aims to create opportunities for an additional eight lakh indirect jobs through extensive training in freelancing and creative sectors at college and university levels.

To achieve this goal, he said, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has undertaken special projects to generate employment for young people through training in freelancing, mobile-phone servicing, caregiving and language skills.

The finance and planning minister also said initiatives are being taken to formulate and implement a time-bound action plan for developing skilled and adaptable human resources capable of meeting emerging challenges.
