Chinese envoy, IFC official call on Tofazzel

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2024 (BSS) – Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen today hailed the government for holding the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) polls in a free and fair manner and expressed keenness to work with new government in different sectors of Bangladesh.

The Chinese envoy expressed the eagerness at a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Miah at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the city, a PMO press release said.
Tofazzel thanked the Chinese government for its support to the development programmes in Bangladesh and sending observes to monitor the January 7 general polls.

He requested Wen for increasing the Chinese investment in Bangladesh.

Besides, Country Manager of International Finance Corporation (IFC) to Bangladesh Martin Holtman also paid a courtesy call on Tofazzel Hossain Miah at the PMO.

Tofazzel urged the IFC country manager to increase investment in the private sector and sought cooperation from the IFC in implementing the ‘National Logistic Development Policy’ proposed by the Bangladesh government.

He also sought cooperation from the IFC to increase the riverine accessibility and construct river ports and jetties in Bangladesh, the press release said.

Holtman expressed keenness to provide lower and middle income people with credit facilities in housing sector.
