BNP making evil efforts to destroy spirit of Liberation War: Quader

DHAKA, March 27, 2024 (BSS) - Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP is making evil efforts to destroy the spirit and values of the great Liberation War as well as the democracy under an orchestrated plan.

"BNP is the main obstacle to implement the democratic values in the country. BNP leaders should have sought an unconditional pardon from the nation for their undemocratic activities. Without doing so, they are making their traditional ill-motivated comments," he said in a statement.

Quader said BNP was born at the hands of killer Ziaur Rahman following the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975.

It is very ridiculous that BNP is now talking about democracy and human rights, he said.

Noting that BNP has no responsibility to democracy, Quader said being killers of democracy, BNP is now shedding crocodile tears for democracy.

BNP leaders are now shedding tears for democracy to push back the country towards the misrule of Tarique Zia who is the mastermind of August 21 grenade attack, owner of "Hawa-Khowab" Bhaban and kingpin of corruption-terrorism and criminalization, he said.

Democracy-loving patriotic citizens of the country are now united against these evil forces, he said.

The AL general secretary said following the footprints of dictator Ziaur Rahman, his wife Begum Khaleda Zia also held farcical elections on February 15, 1996. BNP held scandalous by-polls to Mirpur and Magura, he added.

They formed Aziz-type Election Commission and created voter's list of 1.23 crore fake voters to seize the state power through election manipulation, he said.

BNP had set a worst example of repression and torture on leaders and workers of opposition party in the name of "Operation Clean Heart", he said.

During the tenure of the BNP-Jamaat coalition government from 2001-2006, as many as 21,000 leaders and workers of Awami League were killed, he said.
