Khaleda Zia to be admitted to London Clinic

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will be admitted to London Clinic in the UK for advanced treatment as she will leave Dhaka tomorrow for London.

Her personal physician Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan political office here today said, Khaleda Zia will leave Dhaka for London at 10 pm tomorrow in a special air ambulance.

“Khaleda Zia will be admitted to prestigious London Clinic under the National Health Service (NHS),” he said.

Khaleda Zia will be taken to the hospital directly from the Heathrow International Airport, he said.

“We are taking her to London Clinic, which is a multi-disciplinary advanced medical center. Doctors in that hospital will check her and then decide what will be the next course of her treatment,” he said.

In response to a question about shifting her to the United States, Dr Zahid said, if physicians of London Clinic referred her to Johns Hopkins University Hospital, then the question of going there will arise.

Replying to another question whether she will go to Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Umrah, Dr Zahid said, on her way to home after treatment she may go there if her physical condition permits.

Dr. Zahid said that the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani provided the special air ambulance from royal fleet after learning about the illness of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The air ambulance will have four doctors and paramedics from Qatar, and six members of Khaleda Zia’s medical board from Dhaka will be added with them.

Medical board members accompanying Khaleda Zia are- Prof. Shahabuddin Talukder, Prof. FM Siddique, Prof. Nuruddin Ahmed, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Prof. AZM Zahid Hossain and Dr. Mohammad Al Mamun.

Syeda Shamila Rahman, wife of Begum Khaleda Zia’s youngest son late Arafat Rahman, member of the Chairperson's Advisory Council Enamul Haque Chowdhury, member of BNP Executive Committee Tabith Awal and Khaleda Zia's Private Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, will accompany her along with a few personal staffs.

Urging all to pray for Khaleda Zia’s recovery Dr Zahid said Madam and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman thanked all for their continuous prayers and support.  
 
Khaleda Zia, 79, has been suffering from various critical ailments for long.

“Khaleda Zia has some post-Covid complications too for which measures are needed to be taken for thorough checking,” Dr Zahid said.   

Praising her treatment provided by local hospital, Khaleda’s personal physician said: “The staffs of Evercare Hospital are the best. Madam Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and everybody in her family are satisfied with the treatment of Evercare Hospital.

“There is no dissatisfaction, everyone is happy, we are happy too, the party is happy,” Dr Zahid said.
