UNHCR hopes intl community will renew focus on Rohingya crisis

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - Visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi hoped that the international community will renew its focus to resolve the Rohingya crisis.

He expressed optimism that the UN conference, proposed by Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus will generate enough momentum for meaningful efforts from all. 

Filippo Grandi said this in a meeting with Foreign Affairs adviser Md. Touhid Hossain at latter’s office, said a ministry’s press release. 

During the meeting, the Foreign Adviser thanked the High Commissioner for his visit to Bangladesh and appreciated the continued support extended by the UN to the Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh.

He highlighted the important role of the UNHCR and the international community in bringing a durable solution to the crisis. 

Adviser Hossain shared concern that failing to bring a lasting solution to this crisis will further destabilize the peace and security in the region.

UNHCR High Commissioner will visit the Rohingya camps in Coxs’Bazar tomorrow.
