SYLHET, April 10, 2025 (BSS) - Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) today called upon all not take law into own hands, warning to take tougher action against organized mob.

“No organized mob (violence) will be tolerated in the future. Strict action will be taken against anyone who takes law into their own hands,” he said while speaking to newsmen after visiting the Airport Police Station in Sylhet this afternoon.

The Home Adviser has requested everyone to take a strong stance against the mob violence.

He said all have to keep in mind that sometimes police are late in taking action due to shortage of police vehicles and required facilities.

“As you know, many police stations and vehicles were burnt on August 5. And we have not been able to provide them with new vehicles yet,” he said.

The expectations of the people to the police are too high, he said, adding that but you have to realize that the police have limitations.

However, efforts are being made to fill that shortage by collecting old vehicles from different places and purchasing some new others, he said.

Despite the fact, police have become more active and efficient than before, he said, hoping that the law and order situation will improve further in the future.

Referring to the expectations of the people from the police, Jahangir said in order to fulfill the desired expectations of the people, it is necessary to further improve the infrastructure and ancillary facilities of the police stations that include accommodation and food for the subordinate forces of the police.

“We are working towards that goal,” he said.

The law and order situation has improved a lot, he said referring to the situation during the holy month of Ramadan.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim, Sylhet Range DIG Md. Mushfequr Rahman and senior officials of the administration were present.

Later, the Home Adviser visited Shantiganj Police Station in Sunamganj.

In response to questions from journalists, he said that crimes can happen.

However, the main issue is whether the law and order forces are taking legal action in this regard, he said.

“The law enforcement agencies have been instructed to be vigilant so that no group can create an organized mob in the future and terrorists and criminals cannot commit crimes,” he said.

The Home Adviser called upon the media to present objective news.

“If the people get objective information, the situation in the country will remain calm. The country and the people will be well,” he said.
