DHAKA, June 22, 2025 (BSS) - US Chargé d'affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson today called on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at party chairperson's Gulshan office this morning.

Party Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid were present during the meeting.

Later, Amir Khasru told reporters in a media briefing that the US envoy along with her team came and there was a long discussion on bilateral issues, especially the tariff imposed on Bangladesh by the USA.

"They sought our opinion on the issue of tariff. We believe that it is necessary to cooperate with the government in this matter and find a solution, because if the tariff on Bangladeshi products is increased to a high value, our garment exports will be severely affected. BNP will work with the government on this issue and cooperate so that a fair solution is found to the tariff issue," he said.

Khasru said there was a discussion on increasing trade between the two countries and how to increase further investment in Bangladesh.

In response to a question whether there was a discussion on polls, the BNP leader said naturally, there was a discussion on the issue.

"The meeting between the chief adviser and Tarique Rahman in London has been appreciated. They are able to understand the importance of that meeting and as a result of that meeting, the country has come to a great relief and is heading towards elections," he said.

"Everyone knows that we are moving towards democratic transformation, and everyone has come to a certain point of relief," he said.
