DHAKA, July 15, 2025 (BSS) - National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz today urged the political parties to reach consensus on unresolved issues soon.

"Some issues were agreed on at the initial stage of talks with the political parties, and some were agreed at the second stage of discussions. Decisions on all the issues, on which there are still differences of opinion, should be taken in a short time," he said.

Prof Ali Riaz requested the political parties to feel their responsibility in taking decisions to this end.

He made the request while speaking at the beginning of the 14th day of the second stage of talks being held between the political parties and the commission at the Foreign Service Academy here.

The meeting was also attended by Commission members Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr Md Ayub Mia, Dr Iftekharuzzaman and Safar Raj Hossain and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.

Prof Ali Riaz said the commission is not a separate entity but it is a partner of the efforts of political parties.

So, he said, if they fail, this failure will not be the commission's one alone but all, and that is why there is no scope for being failure.

"We have to succeed with the cooperation of all. The parameter of this success is how much we can agree on a structural reform," he said.

Representatives of 30 political parties, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gana Sanghati, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, are participating in today's meeting.

The issues of women's representation and bicameral legislature are scheduled to be discussed in the meeting.
