DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) – Fire service, army, navy and air force alongside BGB are making intense joint efforts to douse the devastating fire that broke out at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Dhaka this afternoon.
All types of flight operations at the country's main airport have been temporarily suspended this afternoon.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and FSCD Director General FSCD Director General (DG) Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal has visited the fire site.
Huge smoke was seen coming out of the Cargo Village building till filing of this report around 6:45pm today.
The fire erupted in the import section of the Cargo Village -- where imported goods are stored -- at 8 No. gate around 2:30pm today, Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) media officer Talha Bin Zasim told BSS.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could be known after thorough investigation, another media officer of Fire Service Khairul Islam Rony told BSS.
At present, a total of 37 fire engines from 13 fire stations have been working to douse the blaze, he said.
Modern fire equipment including robotic airgun and escalator are being used in dousing the blaze, he also said.
Additionally, two fire units of the Bangladesh Air Force are working to extinguish the fire.
But, the fire officers could not confirm how much time will be required to bring the fire under control.
Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Ansar forces also joined the efforts to douse the inferno and maintain the law and order.
A medical team is now working at the airport to give prompt treatment to the injured.
A crowd of excited people was seen outside Cargo Village. The Air Force is using mikes to ask the excited people to leave.
