KHULNA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - The long-awaited Khulna Divisional Children's Hospital (DCH) is expected to open in the first quarter of next year, marking a major step forward in enhancing specialized healthcare for children across the region.

Constructed at a cost of Tk 114 crore, the modern 200-bed facility stands on 4.8 acres of land opposite the Mayuri Residential Area beside the city bypass road. The five-story building was completed last year as part of the project's first phase.

Health officials said the new hospital will provide advanced medical services for children from 10 districts under the Khulna division once it begins operations.

"The hospital will play a crucial role in improving access to quality child healthcare in the southwest region," said Acting Divisional Health Director Dr Md Mujibur Rahman, adding that necessary preparations are underway to make the facility functional early next year.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Mahfuza Khatun said, "The construction of the boundary wall and the main gate on one side of the hospital area is still pending, highlighting the need for enhanced security.

According to sources, a proposal involving Tk 98 crore has been submitted for the second phase of the project, which includes extending the building up to the 10th floor, constructing the boundary wall, and adding staff quarters, internal roads, and drainage facilities.
