MAGURA, Oct 24, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has expressed hope that the upcoming election, scheduled for February next year, will be a milestone in the democratic history of the nation.

“There is no pressure on the government over the polls in February. All parties have reached a consensus on the elections. The most beautiful election in the history of the nation will be held,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the July Memorial, built in memory of the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising of 2024, at Nabhanga Park in Magura on Thursday.

Alam, during the visit, said that the July Memorial will be formally inaugurated in the presence of the advisers.

About the referendum, he said that according to the decision of the National Consensus Commission, the referendum may be held either before or after the national election.

“The government has not yet taken a final decision in this regard,” he added.

On the July Charter, Alam said that all parties have reached a consensus on the charter.

“Some parties that have not yet signed it have also agreed to the charter in principle,” he continued.
About the amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), he said that it has been decided to include a ‘no vote’ option. If there is no other candidate in a constituency, voters will have the opportunity to express their opinion by casting a ‘no vote’.

Regarding the participation of Awami League (AL) in the next polls, he stated that the party has no scope to take part in the upcoming general election.
