DHAKA, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh has begun first ever official wheat import from the United States, with the first shipment aboard the MV NORSE STRIDE, carrying 56,959 metric tons, reaching the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port today.

The import is part of a total 440,000 metric tons of wheat under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Bangladesh and the United States, an official handout said here.

The shipment is being handled under the agreement between the Directorate General of Food of the Ministry of Food and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

After testing samples from the ship, arrangements have been made for its prompt unloading.

Of the total 56,959 metric tons, some 34,170 metric tons will be unloaded at Chittagong Port, while the remaining 22,789 metric tons will be at the Mongla Port, the handout added.
