Govt approves several ordinances, proposal

DHAKA, Jan 15, 2026 (BSS) - The government today approved drafts of several ordinances, a proposal on three conventions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the draft of an agreement between the governments of Bangladesh Azerbaijan.

The Council of Advisers gave the approvals at its weekly meeting at the Chief Adviser's Office here with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair.

After the meeting, Chief Adviser Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed the media at the Foreign Service Academy here this afternoon, saying the Council of Adviser gave final approval to the drafts of the Microfinance Bank Ordinance 2026, the Registration (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2026 and the Protection and Conservation of Fish (Amendment) Ordinance 2026.

The Council also approved the proposal on giving consent to the three IOM conventions- the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (CLC), 1969, the International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, 2001, and the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, 2007, he said.

The meeting also approved the drafts of the agreement between the Government of Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh on Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Official and Service Passport, the press secretary added.

Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul and Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present at the briefing.
