DHAKA, June 20, 2026 (BSS) - President Mohammed Shahabuddin has emphasized the important role of hydro graphic activities in ensuring safe navigation, exploration and management of marine resources and sustainable development of coastal areas.

The Head of State said this in a message issued today on the occasion of 'World Hydrography Day-2026' to be celebrated tomorrow.

The President said the vast maritime area of Bangladesh is a huge treasure trove of immense potential for national progress, development of blue economy and exploration of natural resources.
“The importance of modern and effective hydro graphic activities is immense to utilize these potentials,” he added.

The President said the Hydro graphic Division of Bangladesh Navy is making an important contribution by conducting surveys in coastal and marine areas, preparing nautical charts, ensuring safe navigation and exchanging information according to international standards.

He said due to the rapid advancement of information technology, new horizons have been opened up in the field of collecting, preserving and analyzing marine data.

“Developing skilled manpower in this sector and strengthening technology-based management is the need of the hour,” he added.

The President called upon the Hydro graphic Division of the Navy and the relevant specialized higher education institutions to further strengthen training, education and research activities.

The hydro graphic service will make the desired contribution to the development of maritime transport and the blue economy as well as the conservation of the marine environment, he hoped.
