Acting President pays homage at National Memorial

DHAKA, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, today paid homage to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War by placing a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar.

He laid the wreath at 11:40 am and observed a minute of solemn silence in memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country's independence.

Following the tribute, a guard of honour was presented by members of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force.

The acting President later signed the visitors' book, paying deep tribute to the Liberation War martyrs.

In his written remarks, he also remembered the Proclaimer of Independence, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with deep reverence.

As part of the visit, the acting President also planted a sapling on the National Memorial premises.

He left the National Memorial premises at 11:47 am after completing the official programme.

Earlier, at 11:35 am, he arrived at the memorial and exchanged greetings with the chiefs of the three services, along with other senior officials.

Among others, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division (AFD), secretaries to the President's Office, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Savar Cantonment, the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) were present.
