DHAKA, July 27, 2026 (BSS) - Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No. 3 (R) as a deep depression has formed over the Bay.

The monsoon depression over the Northwest Bay and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts intensified into a deep depression and now lies over the Northwest Bay and adjoining West Bengal-North Odisha coasts near latitude 21.2øN and longitude 88.1øE at 6am today, said a special weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) this morning.

The deep depression was located about 425 kilometres west-southwest of Chattogram, 430 kilometres west of Cox's Bazar, 220 kilometres west-southwest of Mongla and 260 kilometres west-southwest of Payra.

It is likely to move north-northwestwards and cross the West Bengal-North Odisha coasts by this evening (July 27, 2026), the bulletin said.

Under the influence of the system, squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kilometres of the deep depression centre is about 50 kilometres per hour, rising to 60 kilometres per hour in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain rough near the centre of the deep depression.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter until further notice.

Meanwhile, an inland riverports warning said rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary south/southeasterly gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45-60 kilometres per hour are likely over Rajshahi, Pabna, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar regions.

River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal No. 1 (R) one.
