DHAKA, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Adviser Dr. Mahdi Amin today urged all to strengthen national unity despite differences of opinions to prevent resurgence of fascism that grilled the country during the fallen fascist regime.
"In continuation of the heroic movements and struggles against the prolonged fascist misrule spanning over a decade and a half, the historic mass uprising of students and the people on August 5, 2024, was successful," he said.
Mahdi came up with the call in a post on his verified Facebook account today, while paying tribute to the sacrifices on the occasion of the second anniversary of the 2024 July Uprising.
He said, "As the country's largest political party, the backdrop of this uprising was created over more than a decade and a half through the unparalleled sacrifices and struggles of BNP leaders and activists. Under the leadership of the then Acting Chairman and current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, forgetting all political differences, a new polarization and national unity was created under the banner of 'Fascism vs. Bangladesh.' In this, the firm leadership of the country's leader Begum Khaleda Zia guided the struggle towards a successful conclusion."
On the context of the second anniversary, urging against unnecessary divisions within unity, Mahdi Amin said, "There may be debates, discussions, and constructive criticism among us, but we must avoid indecent behavior and accommodate differing opinions with wisdom and positivity. Maintaining a broader national unity on the question of fascism is the demand of the time."
