Mim, a torchbearer of women empowerment

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2024 (BSS) - Tinker Jannat Mim appears to be a harbinger of women empowerment as she helped more than 15,000 women to be self-reliant with establishing a vibrant female community fostering women's empowerment, growth, and solidarity.

Mim has been working to develop women for last ten years as her-founded 'Pop of Colour' started its journey in 2014 aiming at empowering women, instilling confidence and enabling them to recognize and harness their fullest potential.

She is assisting women to become self-reliant with economically, physically and mentally free of cost as different seminars, workshops and events are being organized by her organization to guide the women, resulting in member increase to about 1.44 lakh now on social platforms including facebook and instagram.
 
Mim said her organization is working prioritising physical and mental health of women, cyber crime, and remedy of violence and carrier development.

"In fact, we try to motivate the women to become self-reliant. We are also providing mental and physical supports to the women free of cost and help them get legal assistance if they are harassed," she said.

About 30,000 women got services from the organization in the last eight years while about 15,000 women received financial assistance to become self-reliant, she added.
 
The frontrunner of women empowerment said about 20, 000 women were provided with mental support from the organization.

"I think many women lag behind and they have less opportunity. Even, they have no place to talk. So, we should do something for them. Family's obstacle is one of the main reasons for women's backwardness. Even, they don't get mental support from their family."
 
Mim said she has a dream that every woman can earn and become self-reliant, urging all to come forward to assist the women to be self-reliant.

"For this, family support is must", she thinks.
 
Saleha, one of the beneficiaries from the organization, said she was married off 10 years ago and her husband subjected her to repression only after six months of their marriage for dowry.

After one year, she divorced her husband, she added.
 
She said, "It was really very hard decision for me as I'm from a poor family. But the torture of my husband and also his family increased day by day. And finally I took the decision and divorced him".

"I was helpless. But, one day my close friend gave the information of the organization and brought me here. After that, my life has been changed."
 
Now, she has a tailoring shop and she earns about Taka 20,000 to 25,000 per month from the shop.
