Fugitive death-row convict arrested in Dhaka

DHAKA, April 20, 2024 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a fugitive death-row convict conducting a raid in Darus Salam Thana area of Mirpur here around 4 pm on Friday.
 
RAB sources said the arrestee is M. Mamun, 29, son of M. Alam of Bogura Sadar Police Station who was convicted of an auto-rickshaw driver murder case in Bogura.
 
RAB-2 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Shihab Karim confirmed the incident to BSS this morning.
 
According to the case, on April 9, 2018, the victim Saidul Islam went to Jaipurpara with a passenger from Dattabari in the evening and went missing.
 
The next morning, the local people saw his body lying in a garden next to the Eidgah ground in Dharampur Garerhat area of the city, and informed the concerned police station.
 
Later, the victim's younger brother filed a murder case against 3 unknown persons with Bogura Sadar police station the next day.
 
After being behind the bars for five years, Mamun managed to secure bail and absconded.
 
Later, the 1st Additional Sessions Judge Court of Bogura sentenced him to death and fined Taka 50,000. The court also issued an arrest warrant against him.
 
The RAB official said that he has been handed over to Bogura Sadar Police Station.
