62nd death anniversary of Sher-e Bangla tomorrow

DHAKA, April 26, 2024 (BSS)- The 62nd death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla Abul
Kashem Fazlul Huq will be observed across the country in a befitting manner
tomorrow.

AK Fazlul Huq, popularly known as Sher-e-Bangla (Tiger of Bengal) or Huq
Saheb, died on April 27 in 1962 in Dhaka.

He was born on October 26, 1873 at his maternal uncle's house at Saturia, a
prosperous village in the southern part of the then Bakerganj, now
Jhalakathi, district of Barishal Division. But his ancestral house was at
Chakhar, a village 14 miles away from Barisal town.

Huq was an eminent public leader who had held many high political posts,
including the Mayor of Kolkata (1935), Chief Minister of undivided Bengal
(1937-1943) and East Bengal (1954), Home Minister of Pakistan (1955) and
Governor of East Pakistan (1956-58).

To mark the day, different socio-political and cultural organizations have
planned elaborate programmes including placing wreaths at the grave of the
deceased leader and offering fateha at his grave, a milad mahfil and
discussions.

The ruling Awami League will pay tribute to the great leader by placing
wreaths at his grave at Suhrawardi Udayan at 8:00am tomorrow. The party will
also hold a recitation of Surah Fatiha and offer prayers for salvation of the
departed soul of Sher-e-Bangla at his grave.

Meanwhile, Barishal Bibhag Samiti will organize a discussion and doa mahfil
marking the death anniversary of Sher-e Bangla AK Fazlul Huq.

The discussion and doa mahfil will be held at the VIP room of Kitchen Yard
Party Center at Motijheel at 4pm tomorrow (Saturday). Bangladesh Press
Council Chairman Justice M Nizamul Huq Nasim will attend the discussion as
the chief guest while President of Barishal Bibhag Samiti Valiant Freedom
Fighter M Ziaul Kabir Dulu will chair the function.
