JS speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury resigns 

DHAKA, Sept 2, 2024 (BSS) - Speaker of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury resigned today.
 
A gazette notification of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry issued this evening.

 "The Speaker of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, in a letter, submitted her resignation to the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh as per the Section 74 (2) (Gha) of the Constitution," it reads.

The letter was received by the President today (September 2, 2024) . . . And it came into effect on the said date, the notification added.

Following the students-public uprising, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was stepped down and fled the country on August 5.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin, after a day, dissolved the parliament on August 6. Later, an Interim government led by Nobel Laureate Prof Dr. Mouhammad Yunus took over the charge of the office.

However, Dr Shirin became the speaker of the parliament for the first time on April 30, 2013. She had remained in that position uninterruptedly since then.
