DHAKA, Oct 21, 2024(BSS) - A court here today sent Additional Superintendant of Police Jewel Rana to jail after ending his remand and rejecting the bail petition in a case filed over the death of housemaid Liza Akter.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain passed the order after police produced him before the court following his four-day remand.

After getting permission from the Home Ministry, police took Jewel Rana in custody on October 17 and showed him arrested in the case.

Liza, a professional domestic help received injuries on July 18 when police fired on agitating students and people in city’s Ramna area. She died in the hospital on July 22.

Liza's father Md Joynal Shikder filed the case on September 5, 2024 against 174, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina in this connection.
