DHAKA, Nov 05, 2024 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam today laid emphasis on introducing strong early warning systems, improved building codes and making better urban planning to save lives from disaster.

“Due to the geographical location, Bangladesh is one of the most disaster risk countries in the world. Due to lack of awareness and knowledge, Bangladesh has to constantly face man-made disasters,” he said.

The adviser said this while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled "Urban Disaster Management: Problems and Remedies", organized by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) Foundation Multipurpose Hall in the city, said a press release.

Azam said, “The risk will be reduced only if people are aware. It is very difficult to make everyone aware. Creating such awareness should start from the home. Besides, instead of depending on the government, volunteers should be created everywhere.”

Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Kamrul Islam, among others, took part in the workshop.
