DHAKA, Nov 5, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas today called upon the interim government to announce election roadmap as soon as possible.
"Announce the roadmap as soon as possible for the next election," he told a discussion organized marking 21st death anniversary of valiant freedom fighter Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Sabu.
Muktijuddho Projonmo and Projonmo Academy organized the programme at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) at Segunbagicha here.
The senior BNP leader said the government had assumed office three months earlier, but (many) cases against BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and many leaders and activists of the party are yet to be withdrawn.
"This government can drop all the cases against BNP leaders and activists and opposition leaders and activists filed since 2007 to oust the Awami League government through a government ordinance. But it is yet to be done," he said.
Another Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said they don't understand whether the government would stay for a long or say goodbye in due time after discharging their due tasks.
"The present government is the outcome of the student-people movement and their bloods. The countrymen expect that the government will hold a free and fair election at the quickest possible time after completion of the required reforms," he said.
If the government performs their duty accordingly, they would get due place in the history, he continued.
BNP Joint Secretary General Abdus Salam Azad, central member Abu Naser Mohammad Rahamatullah, NPP Secretary General Mostafizur Rahman Mostofa and wife of late Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Sabu's wife Hosne Ara Begum Rina, former general secretary SM Mizanur Rahman and UK BNP information secretary Mojibur Rahman, spoke on the occasion.
Syed Mozammel Hossain read out the keynote paper at the discussion with Projonmo Academy President Kalam Fayezee in the chair while Muktojuddho Projonmo Senior Vice-President Md Zohirul Islam Kolim moderated it.
