Farida for ensuring safe, quality animal protein for all

SAVAR, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has urged the newly appointed government officials to work intensively for ensuring safe and quality animal protein for all as the country is enriched with fisheries and animal resources.

“Bangladesh is full of vast resources …but the problem is many fisheries and animal species are on the verge of extinction, so the youth officials have to come forward to retrieve those extinct species”, she said.

The fisheries and livestock adviser was addressing an inaugural function of  orientation course for newly appointed 43rd BCS (animal) and BCS(fisheries) cadre officials at BCS Livestock Academy here yesterday afternoon.

Farida Akhter said not only nutrition but also safety issues must be considered for food with due importance. 

Drawing attention to the youth officials on importance of abiding public rules, the fisheries adviser said you [ youth officials] must have to know the relations with the fisheries and livestock ministry and other concerned ministries.

“The consequence relating to the climate change is a big challenge for the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock,” she said adding that even the use of pesticides and herbicides approved by the agriculture ministry ultimately leaving serious damages to the fisheries and livestock resources.

With Director General (DG) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Dr M Abu Sufian in the chair, the programme also was addressed, among others, by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Syeda Nawara Jahan, Director General (DG) of the Department of Fisheries (DoF) Dr M Abdur Rauf and Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) Dr Shakila Faruque.

Earlier, BCS Livestock Academy Director Dr AKM Humayun Kabir gave a welcome address at the function.

Newly appointed 95 Officials from the BCS livestock cadre and other 38 from BCS fisheries cadre attended the programme.
