Banned BCL leader Nishi sent to jail in student assault case

DHAKA, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sent to jail Benazir Hossain Nishi, joint general secretary of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in a case lodged for assaulting students of Dhaka University (DU) during anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced Nishi before the court after end of her two-day remand and pleaded to keep her behind the bars.

Earlier on January 14, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak placed Nishi on a two-day remand in the case.

According to the case documents, cadres of Awami League and its front organizations launched a vicious attack on the students on DU premises on July 15. More than 300 students got injured in the attack.

DU student Arman Hossain filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on October 28 against 220 people including BCL president Saddam Hossain.
