Voting rights is fundamental rights of the citizens: EC

KHULNA, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS)- Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Muhammad Sanaullah has said formulation of a flawless updated voters list and making the next election free, fair and credible is the prime objective of the present Election Commission (EC).

"Long democratic movement, supreme sacrifice of the students as well as people and changed situation have generated a new hope and aspiration for getting back voting rights and a concerted efforts of all concerned can be the crucial means of fulfilling the hopes," he added.

Election Commissioner Muhammad Sanaullah came up with the observation while addressing the opening session of a daylong workshop titled "Challenge in the Voters Registration Process and Way Forward" here today as the chief guest. 

On behalf of its "Procuring Manpower Services (55 personnel) for the operation of CB TEP project", Election Commission (EC) organized the workshop at CSS Ava Centre in Khulna city.

With Divisional Commissioner Firoj Sarker in the chair, the opening ceremony was addressed, among others, by EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaj, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Muhhammad Saiful Islam, Regional Election Officer Humayun Kabir and Project Director Muhammad Mustofa Hassan.

EC Abul Fazal Sanaullah asked all concerned to update the voters list through collecting voters’ information from door to door instead of seating in a selected place.

“You have to discharge duties with utmost honesty and sincerity to ensure listing eligible people as voters,” he reminded, directing the EC officials to ensure voting rights of the public in general without doing any partiality.  

Simultaneously, the people who are eligible to become voters should be encouraged to be listed as voters, he added.  

Besides, special attention should be given on enlisting the women in voter lists so that they are not deprived of various civic services. 

Apart from this, the people should be well-informed about the importance of becoming voters as citizens of the country, EC Fazal Sanaullah added. 

Additional Regional Election Officers, Senior District Election Officers, District Election Officers, Additional District Election Officers, Upazila Election Officers, teachers from schools, colleges, madrasas, and universities programmers and system analysts and other stakeholders joined the workshop.
