DHAKA, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS)- BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today urged all to remain alert so that the unity created against fascism is not rifted and any confusion is not created centering the ‘July proclamation’.

He made the call while talking to journalists after emerging from an all-party meeting with the Chief Adviser at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

Representatives of different political parties joined the meeting to discuss on “July Declaration”.

"Discussions have been held with all political parties regarding the July declaration. Leaders of political parties have given various suggestions. We have asked the interim government whether there was any need for the July Declaration five and a half months after the July uprising?” Salahuddin said.

“If there is any need of such declaration, its political importance, historical importance and legal importance should be determined,” the BNP leader told the meeting.

“We have given our suggestions and opinions on various issues including state governance. We have suggested keeping an eye on the declaration so that the unity remains intact,” he said.
This senior BNP leader said if this declaration is made as a political or historical document, then BNP would respect it.

BNP wants inclusion of all parties of July revolution in the formulation of the declaration, Salahuddin said.

Stressing the importance of maintaining national unity against fascism, he said, the national unity which was created through the July-August mass uprising must be transformed into mass unity.

“We can even bring this unity into the political culture. Similarly, maintaining that unity and taking the nation forward is the biggest challenge for us now,” he said.

Asked whether the issue of national election was discussed in the meeting, he said, there was no discussion on the issue.
