Court orders freezing 77 bank accounts of Hasan Mahmud, his family

DHAKA, Jan 16, 2025(BSS) - The Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court today ordered the authorities concerned to freeze 77 bank accounts of former foreign minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and his family members.

The Senior Special Judge of the court passed the order to freeze those accounts of Dr Hasan Mahmud, his wife Nuran Fatema, daughter Nafisa Jumaiya Mahmud and their establishments following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

A total of Taka 24,65, 41, 958 has remained deposited in those accounts.

Investigation Officer of the case Deputy Director (DD) of the ACC Komolesh Mondal told the court that a total of Taka 753,30,27,559 were transected through these accounts which were suspicious. These transactions were made while Dr Hasan Mahmud was state minister and minister, the IO added.

The IO also told the court that the account holders are trying to withdraw and divert the money to another place and prayed for freezing those accounts under section 14 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

After hearing the statements of the ACC, the court ordered to freeze those accounts.
