DHAKA, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS) – Teachers and students of Dhaka University under different banners staged demonstration at the university campus protesting the attack on the students of hill tracts in front of NCTB building and demanded exemplary punishment of those involved.

Students of DU Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) department brought out a protest rally, at the base of Anti Terrorists Raju memorial sculpture around 2:30 pm, which was also participated by teachers and former students.

While speaking in the protest rally, Associate Professor of DU MCJ department Dr. Khorshed Alam said, “What had happened to indigenous students cannot take place in a civilized society. Our students came under attack even though six months of the revolution haven’t passed yet”.

This government is the government of the students but, unfortunately students are becoming victims of attacks frequently, he said, adding, “Government must bring all the culprits involved in such heinous incidents to light and provide them punishment”.

Boby Biswas, one of the victims of the attack in front of NCTB, said, “When we went to Motijheel with a procession on Wednesday, we were suddenly attacked. They attacked us with stamps but we were totally unarmed. It was a planned attack on us. We want justice for the attack.”

Besides, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Dhaka University unit staged a demonstration at the foot of the Raju sculpture this afternoon and condemned the incident.

Later, they brought out a protest march in the Dhaka University campus.

Addressing the rally, DU JCD general secretary Nahiduzzamn Shipon demanded swift justice to all saying, “We are strongly condemning the heinous attack on our brothers and sisters. All the culprits involved with the attack, must be brought to the light soon and provided with exemplary punishment”.

Following the incident, the Dhaka University administration also issued a notification from the Proctor office condemning the attack on the students and declared to provide all the treatment facilities to the injured DU students.

“An organization named Students for sovereignty carried out an attack on DU students on January 15. We are condemning the attack. ‘Students for sovereignty’ does not belong to Dhaka University and has no connection with the university,” read the statement.
