Govt provides free legal aid in 4,15,649 cases

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - The government, through National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), has provided free legal aid in 4,15,649 cases across the country from 2009 to January, 2025.

Of the 4, 15,649 cases, free legal aid was given in 4,07,992 cases from district legal aid offices, 4,412 cases received legal aid from two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram and in 3,245 cases from Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, NLASO sources said.

The NLASO also provided free legal advice to 4, 64,938 people during this time. Of these, 1, 83,736 were given legal advice through national legal aid toll free number "16430". 

Apart from these, initiatives have been taken for alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in resolving 1, 56, 022 cases from 2009 to January, 2025. A total of 1, 41, 003 cases or disputes were resolved through ADR during the time.

National Legal Aid Services Organization is a statutory organization of the government under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. It is responsible for providing legal aid to poor justice seekers across the country.
