DMP reinforces security arrangement, arrests 256 more crime suspects

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 256 suspects of various crimes after reinforcing raids, patrols and intelligence surveillance in the capital in last 24 hours from 12:01am to 11:59 pm on Wednesday. 

A DMP statement said of the arrestees, 13 were robbers, 32 professional active robbers, six extortionists, 19 thieves, 28 identified drug dealers and 41 others on warrants. 

Six knives, one bottle, one private car, one scooty, one motorcycle, one auto-rickshaw, one walkie-talkie, two fake police ID cards, six mobile phones and Tk 11,500 in cash were seized from their possessions. 

In addition, 14,913 pieces of Yaba, 1.660 kg of marijuana, one liter of country-made liquor and 4.7 grams of heroin were recovered during the operation.

A total of 65 cases were registered with different police stations of the DMP during the period. 

According to the Crime Command and Control Center of the DMP, a total of 550 patrol teams of the force moved around 50 police stations as of the DMP’s commitment to ensuring security and smooth movement of the people of Dhaka Metropolitan City.  

Apart from these, 65 police check posts were operated by DMP at various important and strategic locations while 20 check posts are operated by the specialized unit of the police, APBN, along with the DMP to increase security in the metropolitan area. 

In addition to the patrol teams of the DMP, 14 patrol teams of the CTTC, 12 of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and 10 patrol teams of the DMP and RAB are on duty in various crime-prone areas of the metropolis to ensure public safety and law and order.
