One crore families to get 10-kg of rice for free: Food Adviser

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2025(BSS) - Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today said that one crore low-income families will receive 10 kilograms of rice each free of cost from the interim government, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
 
“Fifty lakh families across the country will receive 30 kgs of rice at Tk 15 per kg in March and April under the government’s food-friendly programme,” he said while addressing a view exchange meeting on "OMS and Food- Friendly Programme" at the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's Office.
 
Chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Dhaka, Sharaf Uddin Chowdhury, the meeting was attended, among others, by Food Secretary Md Masudul Hassan, Director General of the Food Directorate, all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Dhaka division and senior officials of the divisional commissioner’s office.
 
The food adviser said, "There is no food shortage in the country, but the distribution system needs better discipline".
 
He instructed the deputy commissioners (DCs) to conduct regular mobile court operations to prevent irregularities and ensure that subsidised and free food grains reach the right beneficiaries.
 
The adviser directed all deputy commissioners of Dhaka Division to closely monitor the rice distribution especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
