BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman laid to eternal rest

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 28, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vice-chairman, former minister and valiant freedom fighter Abdullah Al Noman was laid to eternal rest beside his father's grave at Gohira village under Raozan upazila after Asar Prayer today with full state honour.

Before burial, fourth Namaz-e-Janaza was held at his ancestral village at Gahira High School ground where thousands of people from Raozan, Hathazari, Fatikchari and Raozan upazilas took part.

Earlier, another Namaz-e-Janaza of Abdullah-Al-Noman was held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque premises in the city after Jumma prayers.

Thousands of people from all strata including leaders of BNP and other political organizations, members of different socio-cultural and professional organizations, admirers and well-wishers, comrades of his long political career joined the janaza turning the Jamiatul Falah ground as well as surrounding areas including WASA circle, Lalkhan Bazar and Kazir Dewri areas into a human sea. 

Many of Noman’s political disciples, supporters and co-comrades who had closely struggled and accompanied him during various national historic movements like Liberation War in 1971, anti-autocratic movement in 90,s and movements against fascist Hasina regime in last 17 years’ were seen weeping besides late leader’s coffin at the ground. 

The body of Noman was kept in front of Jamiatul Falah Mosque in an ambulance where leaders and activists of BNP and its front organizations and different political parties paid tributes by placing floral wreaths on the coffin of Noman.

BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, city mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, BNP’s divisional organizing secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, member of BNP Chairperson’s advisory council  SM Fazlul Hoque, north district BNP president Golam Akbar Khandhoker, city BNP convenor Ershad Ullah, city Jammat ameer Shahjahan  Chowdhury, BNP divisional joint organizing secretary Barrister Mir Md Helal Uddin, CPB president Shah Alam, and Noman’s only son Sayed Al Noman Turja, among others attended the Janaza.

Recalling his contribution to the country and strengthening BNP’s political base across the country, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said the death of veteran political leader like Noman is an irreparable loss for the country as well as the party. 

His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and 2nd  one was  in front of BNP’s central office in the city’s Naya Paltan on February 25. 

Abdullah Al Noman passed away at his Dhanmondi residence in the capital on February 25 at the age of 82. He is survived by wife, a son, a daughter, grandsons and granddaughters, a host of relatives, friends, admirers and political fellows.
