Curtain falls on Ekushey book fair

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2025 (BSS)- The month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2025 came to an end today with presence of a large number of book lovers on the closing day.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki was present as the chief guest in the concluding ceremony of the fair at Bangla Academy premises. President of the academy Professor Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq was in the chair.
 
Member secretary of the book fair management committee Dr. Sarkar Amin presented a report on the fair while Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy Professor Mohammad Azam spoke among others.
 
Adviser Farooqi called upon all concerned to transform Bangla Academy into a dynamic institution with new thinking and expressed hope to arrange next year fair in a new way.

He said this year’s book fair was organized amidst some instabilities in the cultural arena of Bangladesh after July Uprising.

In future, the book fair should be arranged in a new dimension accommodating new thoughts and vision. Bangla Academy must play dynamic role in this regard, he said.

President of Bangla Academy Professor Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq said the book fair marks preserving the memory of language martyrs. He said, February is a month of realization of the spirit of the Language Movement and for this it is a very important month for us.

Bangla Academy DG Mohammad Azam expressed hope to arrange next year book fair more pleasantly to meet peoples aspiration.

Books of Taka 61.65 lakh were sold in the last 27 days of the fair and publishers brought as many as 3,299 new books in this year fair, member secretary of the fair management committee Sarkar Amin said.
