DHAKA, March 4, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today discharged BNP acting chairman
Tarique Rahman’s personal secretary (PS) Miah Nuruddin Apu from an extortion case
filed in 2007.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order, accepting a discharge
petition filed for Apu.

Today was fixed for holding a hearing on charge framing in the case. The prosecution
argued for framing charges against Apu, while his lawyer pleaded to discharge his client
from the case. After hearing both parties, the court discharged Apu as it found no
‘substantial materials’ to frame charges in the case.

The case was filed on March 8, 2007, with the Gulshan Police Station in the capital
against Tarique Rahman and Miah Nuruddin Apu for demanding Taka one crore in
extortion.

The High Court on October 23, 2024, scrapped the proceedings of the case against
Tarique Rahman. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on January 5 upheld the
judgment of the High Court.
