ACC sues ex-minister Narayan Chandra, his wife over graft charges

DHAKA, March 4, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former land minister Narayan Chandra Chanda and his wife Usha Rani Chanda, on charges of acquiring assets beyond their known sources of income.

ACC Director General (Prevention) M Akhter Hossain told newsmen at a briefing at the ACC’s 
Headquarters today.

He said assistant directors -- Rakibul Islam and Mahmudul Hasan Shuvro -- filed the cases at ACC's Integrated District Office, Khulna this afternoon. 

In the case against Narayan Chandra Chanda, the ACC alleged that the former minister amassed assets worth Tk1.79 crore through corruption during his tenure as the MP for Khulna-5 and as the minister of Fisheries and Livestock and later the Land Ministry.

In a separate case, the ACC named both Narayan Chandra Chanda and Usha Rani Chanda as accused. According to the case statement, they jointly acquired assets worth Tk 62.43 lakh unlawfully.

Earlier, Md Abdul Wadud, deputy director of the ACC's Khulna office, told BSS that the commission launched an investigation on October 23, 2024 after receiving a complaint against Narayan Chandra Chanda.
