DHAKA, Mar 5, 2025 (BSS) - Three persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in vandalism and looting of a house in the city’s Gulshan, which belongs to former wife of Tanvir Imam, son of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's political advisor HT Imam, in the name of search, said a police press release.

The arrestees have been identified as Shakil Khandaker (24), his father Jewel Khandaker (48) and Shakil Ahmed (28).

Upon information that a huge amount of illegal money, weapons and Awami League associates were hidden in the Gulshan house, a gang of 20-25 people broke into the house under the pretext of 'search' and tried to vandalize and loot the house on Tuesday midnight, the release said.

After receiving information through national emergency number 999, the DC of Gulshan Zone, the OC of Gulshan Police Station and members of the army reached the spot at 12:30am.
They arrested three persons from the spot and a case was filed against them with Gulshan Police Station.

In the preliminary investigation, the police revealed that Shakil Ahmed worked as a caretaker in the house. He had incited the public to search the house by informing them that Tk 200-300 crore could be found.

Earlier, around 10:30pm on Thursday a group of people tried to enter the house on the same pretext. Later, the police arrived and persuaded them to leave.

Against the backdrop of the incident, the Home Ministry Affairs once again said that no one should take the law into their own hands.

“If any crime is committed anywhere, the nearest police station should be informed immediately. The government is striving to maintain law and order in the country and is committed to providing security to the lives and property of the people,” the ministry reaffirmed.
