DHAKA, March 8, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said the three most important people in his life are women - mother, wife and daughter.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on the occasion of International Women's Day today, Tarique Rahman said he always wanted to ensure every possibility, success and happiness for them. "I am sure that many of you who are reading this cherish the same feeling," he said.

After the 1/11 changeover, Tarique Rahman fell ill due to the oppression of the then government and went to London for treatment along with his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman.

He said the young women and girls of Bangladesh have the right to be empowered and supported by the people around them.

Every woman, he said, should enjoy the same dignity, protection and opportunities as any man.

"On International Women's Day, I reaffirm that like the previous BNP government led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, we will work tirelessly to create a just, tolerant and respectful society. Where there will be no discrimination on the basis of gender, caste or religion," he said.

Tarique Rahman, referring to equal rights for men and women, said, "Our girls should have equal opportunities like our boys. They should be able to come out of the house, use the internet without any harassment and express their views without any fear".

Noting that BNP's policy formulation is deeply rooted in recognizing the potential of women in a safe and secure society, Tarique Rahman said, "Initiatives like our 'Family Card' program, SME loans for women entrepreneurs, education and vocational projects to educate young women have played a significant role in women empowerment".

"Let us champion women's economic empowerment, political participation and personal aspirations together," he wished.
