DHAKA, Mar 08, 2025 (BSS)- The International Women's Day was observed today across the country as elsewhere in the world with the theme 'Rights, Equality, Empowerment/Development of Women and Girls'.
Different women, social and political organisations observed the day in a befitting manner with different programmes.
Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus on Friday issued a message expressing the hope that the country's womenfolk will move forward in line with the developed world to materialize the dream of building a developed Bangladesh.
Highlighting the contribution of women to the recent students-people movement, Dr Yunus said women were at the forefront in the mass uprising in July-August that students, workers and mass people forged unity for country's democratic transformation.
Marking the day, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has taken elaborate programmes.
Jatiya Press Club (JPC) organized a discussion at its Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall with JPC President Hasan Hafiz in the chair.
On the occasion, a rickshaw rally was brought out by the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) from city's Banani Beltola area to Karail Ground in the morning. Members of BLAST and players of women's football teams joined the rally.
Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Mohila Dal brought out a colorful rally, starting from BNP central office. The rally ended at the same venue after parading different city thoroughfares.
BNP National Standing Committee member Begum Selima Rahman attended the rally as the chief guest while the party's senior joint secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed as the main discussant.
To mark the day, Social Prevention Committee, a coordination of 67 women, human rights and development organizations, arranged a discussion at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital this morning.
Various government and non-government organisations in Rajshahi observed the day with a call to stop all violence against women, disparity and discrimination.
The day was also observed in Khulna with various programmes including rally, women entrepreneurs' fair and discussion. On the day a Women Entrepreneurs' Fair was organized at the Khulna Collectorate premises.
International Women's Day (IWD) is being celebrated on March 8 every year all over the world since 1975 following adopting of a resolution by the United Nations.
