Eight Sangsthas, institutions, establishments under defense ministry renamed

DHAKA, Mar 9, 2025 (BSS) – The interim government has renamed eight Sangsthas, institutions and establishments cancelling the previous names given after the name of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or her family members or people associated with her government.

The Ministry of Defense issued the order this afternoon, signed by the ministry secretary Md Asharf Uddin, saying that the new order will be effective very shortly for the sake of public interest.

The Chief Adviser, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Defense, endorsed the decision for changing the eight name establishments including three of Bangladesh Navy, three of Bangladesh Air Force, one of the Military Command and Staff College and one of the Ministry of Defense, it said.

According to the new decision, the name of the BNS Bangabandhu, located in New Mooring, Chattogram, has been renamed as BNS Khalid Bin Walid.
The name of BNS Sheikh Mujib, at Namapara Khilkhet in the capital, has been named as BNS Dhaka.

BNS Pekua in Cox's Bazar was renamed by cancelling the name of BNS Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu, located at Dhaka Cantonment, Kurmitola, will now be called as Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker.

The Bangabandhu Aeronautical Center of the Air Force, located in Kurmitola, Dhaka, has been named as Bangladesh Aeronautical Center.

Jashore BAF Academy's BAFA Bangabandhu Complex will now be known as the BAFA Complex.

The name of Sheikh Hasina Complex, located at Military Command and Staff College, Mirpur Cantonment in Dhaka, will now be known as DSCSC Complex.

The ‘Bangabandhu Memorial Museum’ located in the Ministry of Defense, Ganabhaban Complex, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, has now been renamed as ‘Defense Museum’.
