KHULNA, March 09, 2025 (BSS) – Adviser to the ministries of Fisheries and Livestock Farida Akhter said here today that the sacrifice of Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughdo, Abu Sayeed, Anas and others helped create a new Bangladesh.
"The generation that was once a source of concern has now created a new Bangladesh. Young individuals like Shaheed Mir Mughdo have proven with their lives that they are ready to make any sacrifice for their country. Our responsibility is to preserve the memories of these martyrs," she said.
She made the remarks while taking part in a discussion at Liakat Ali auditorium following inauguration of ‘Shaheed Mir Mughdo Toron’ at the main gate of Khulna University (KU).
Accusing Sheikh Hasina for the killings of many innocent people during the July-August uprising, she categorically said that the killers must be brought to justice.
In this connection, she said the interim government has been working aimed at starting legal proceedings against the perpetrators before the next election.
Farida Akhter said there are many more like Mughdo in KU campus that remained free from political contamination. “I am wondered how Mughdo thought at that moment, risking his life to provide water to the protesting people,” she added.
She said, “If we make a mistake, no one will forgive this government. Therefore, in response to the demands of students and people, Sheikh Hasina will be tried in the land of Bangladesh.”
Vice-Chancellor of KU Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, presided over the event while Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor of Jessore University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Md. Nazmul Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor of Khulna Agricultural University, Prof. Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, Pro-VC of KU, Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi, Treasurer of KU, and Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, CEO of the July Shaheed Memorial Foundation and brother of martyred Mughdo, addressed as special guests.
Among others, Mir Mostafizur Rahman, Father’s of martyred Mughdo, Md. Rakibul Haque and Syed Kashem Ali and students representing of the ’21 batch spoke on the occasion.
Prof. Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, Director of Student Affairs and Secretary of the event organizing committee delivered the welcome speech. The event was hosted by Assistant Director of Student Affairs, Irin Azhar Urmi.
At the beginning of the event, the national anthem was played followed by a one-minute silence in remembrance of the martyrs of the July-August uprising.
Khulna University’s faculty, students, officials, and staff representatives from civil society, journalists, professionals and mother of martyred Mughdo were present.
