KUSHTIA, March 9, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu to jail in connection with two attempted murder cases.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmuda Sultana passed the order as police produced him before the court this afternoon.

Of the cases, one was filed over an attack on Bangla daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman in 2018, while the other was filed on charges of attempted murder of a Jatiotabadi Swechchasebak Dal leader during the July-August uprising in 2024.

According to the prosecution, Mahmudur Rahman, Amar Desh editor, was attacked on July 22, 2018, on the Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate Court premises after he came out of the court building upon securing bail in a defamation case filed by former district Chhatra League president and current district Swechchhasebak League president Yasir Arafat Tushar.

On October 1, 2024, Mahmudur Rahman filed a case with Kushtia Model Thana, accusing 47 people, including Hasanul Haque Inu.

Meanwhile, Shafiqul Islam who was injured during the anti-discrimination student movement last July-August filed an attempted murder case against Inu and several other people. Hasanul Haq Inu was born in Bheramara upazila in Kushtia district.
