Disaster Adviser for apt preparedness to mitigate disasters' impact

DHAKA, March 10, 2025 (BSS) - Highlighting Bangladesh's vulnerability to natural disasters due to its geographical location, Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, emphasized the importance of proper preparedness to mitigate their impacts.
 
"Every year, the people of the country face various natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, tidal waves, and river erosion. So, there is no alternative to proper preparation to reduce the impact of disasters. Through National Disaster Preparedness Day, we not only raise awareness but also enhance our own preparedness," he said.
 
The adviser made these remarks while addressing a discussion at the meeting room of the ministry at the Secretariat here, marking the National Disaster Preparedness Day-2025.
 
He said the aim of observing the day is to raise awareness about natural and man-made disasters along with informing people on how to minimize the loss of life and property during such calamities.
 
He stated that along with human resources, the proper use of vehicles and equipment in disaster management, as well as the preparedness of the workforce to operate them, is crucial.
 
Department of Disaster Management DG Razwanur Rahman, additional secretary Mohammad Wadud Bhuiyan, Fire Service director Lieutenant Colonel Md Azad, and armed forces representative Colonel Abid, among others, spoke at the event with secretary of the ministry Md Mostafizur Rahman in the chair.
