Ex-BNP lawmaker Nazim Uddin Ahmed passes away

DHAKA, March 11, 2025 (BSS) - Former lawmaker of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Nazim Uddin Ahmed passed away at his Banani residence here early today.

He was 70.

Nazim Uddin Ahmed breathed his last around 12am, family sources said.

Due to his death, condolence poured among the leaders of BNP and its front organisations of his own constituency.

The ailing leader was seen to attend a meeting arranged by the Lakshmipur district BNP held at district outer stadium ground on February 20 last.

Nazim Uddin, also a member of BNP national executive committee, was elected BNP lawmaker for two times from Lakshmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency. 

He was elected a Member of Parliament (MP) in the sixth national parliament elections in 1996 as an independent candidate. Later, he was elected MP by BNP's nomination in the ninth national parliament polls in 2008.

Nazim Uddin was born in 1955 in a respected Muslim family at Vadhur Mia village of Ramganj upazila under Lakshmipur district. He was a former president of Ramganj upazila BNP.

He was survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Ramganj Government College ground at 2pm today and he will be buried at his village graveyard after the second Namaz-e-Janaza at Vadhur High School ground around 2.30pm.
 
The noted BNP leader was suffering from various ailments including diabetic, family sources added.

BNP joint general secretary and Lakshmipur district BNP convener Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne expressed deep shock at the death of veteran lawmaker Nazim Uddin.
